Day 546 - Before the rooster crows

ISO 100, 23mm, f/22, 13.0 sec

My assignment for Project 52 this week is to make a killer self portrait for my About page. Right. Killer because they die laughing?

The verdict is still out on whether or not I'll post the best image of the bunch. The river looked awesome.

Evening shots are out of the question since we have a couple of greyhounds that freak out because of the frickin' frackin' fireworks. We got up at 3 am to catch this moment on the river.

The bridges are always worth it.

Summer cruise anyone?

ISO 3200, 105mm, f/4.0, 1/20 sec

When I was down by the river a few weeks ago, I got lucky.

Normally the Willamette Queen is docked without her lights on. That night just as I was setting up, I heard her whistle. She was going down stream.

Since I was there to shoot the twilight, I was still there when she was coming back.

Woo hoo, jackpot!

Day 528 - Last light

ISO 200, 35mm, f/8.0, 30.0 sec

It's been a couple of months since I've visited the water front. I was surprised by how low the river was. The reflections were so different this time.

How I love the bridges.

Day 463 - The old railroad bridge

ISO 400, 24mm, f/20, 30.0 sec

What a beautiful day we had today. I think Scotty beamed me up to a new planet.

There was no way I was going to miss a twilight photo. I had to head over to the west of the river. The wind was blowing to the east and I'm a weenie, it was cold. I much prefer shooting with the wind to my back.

Day 446 - Look ma, no rain

ISO 100, 31mm, f/16, 30 sec
Ohhhhh, I went out in the twilight tonight. It was fabulous, what can I say. The river was perfect. We've had so much rain I had almost forgotten the feeling.

Day 434 - Here comes the fog

ISO 100, 27mm, f/18, 30.0 sec
The fog was just starting to roll in as I snapped my final shot of the evening.

Day 430 - Save me

ISO 100, 200mm, f/2.8, 1/80

Next time I get a wild hair up my ass to take a four credit course, I hope somebody knocks me up the side of the head.

They call it a term paper because you are supposed to work on it the entire term, not the week-end before it is due.

Rapidly swirling down the drain here.

Day 429 - Sunset in the city

ISO 100, 23mm, f/22, 1.6 sec

Since Karen was craving Ethiopian again today, I got to spend some more time on the Esplanade.

I was in high hopes for a more vivid sunset, I guess this will just have to do.

Those clouds were full of little raindrops.

Day 423 - Rainbow water

ISO 100, 35mm, f/9.0, 30.0 sec

Day 423 - Rainbow water

This was my last image last night before we exited the Esplanade and headed back to Salem.

Day 422 - 32 days

ISO 100, 22mm, f/14, 30.0 sec

I was jonesing. It has been 32 days since my last sparkly twilight shot. I'm not going to lie. I've been irritable, depressed, just downright moody. Every photo I took just looked like crap. I had lost my mojo.

We had mentioned going up to Portland this evening for skyline shot, but it never got above 34 frickin' degrees. Staying home and pouting made so much more sense and was so much warmer. I had work to do, a house to clean and nearly two bazillion of crappy photos to process.

However Karen had the call of Ethiopian cuisine and the strong desire to remove me from my funk, she nearly drug me out of the house. In fact, I think she was ready to hire a team of white horses.

I feel much better now. Full tummy and a sparkly twilight.

Note to self, days are getting longer, get off of your butt and go shoot.

Day 416 - Summer sunrise

ISO 100, 67mm, f/22, 1/160 sec

We were on a field trip in August when we pulled off of the highway to watch the sunrise over the river.

We were at a local park in Corvallis. I'm guessing all of the haze must have been from forest fires.

Day 406 - Walking path

ISO 100, 24mm, f/18, 30.0 sec

There is a walking path that runs along side the Willamette River at the riverfront park.

Since it is so well lit, it is a fairly safe place to walk in the evening. As spring gets closer, I suspect there will be a lot more people out and about.

Day 400

ISO 100, 32mm, f/14, 30.0 sec

Day 400 - Summer memories

Just when I think I have just about hit every angle around the riverfront, another one crops up.

This is the eastbound bridge across the river from the east bank.

This time of day always takes me back to my childhood. I don't know why, but this has got to be the best part of every day.

Day 398

ISO 100, 24mm, f/22, 0.5 sec

Day 398 - Clouded reflections

Sad to say, this is Salem's unusual weather. It is getting incredibly cold at night, but almost 50° and sunny by day.

Day 397

ISO 100, 45mm, f/14, 30.0 sec

Day 397 - The dock

This is from last week when I was down at the riverfront.

I've looked back at this dock many times and enjoyed the reflection in the water.

Day 393

ISO 100, 32mm, f/16, 25.0 sec

Day 393 - Watercolor

This is from Tuesday night. I never realized how beautiful leafless trees are. They are so dramatic in the reflection.

Day 390

ISO 100, 45mm, f/22, 1.6 sec

Day 390 - Silhouettes and sunsets

An unusual sunset down at the riverfront tonight. I really didn't think we were going to get anything. This was a pleasant surprise.

Day 385

ISO 100, 105mm, f/22, 10.0 sec

Day 385 - Winter skies

What a show we've had lately.

Day 383

ISO 100, 105mm, f/22, 30.0 sec

Day 383 - Shadows

This is from last night because today, wait for it, it's raining. I loved the shadow created by the platform on bridge pylon.

Day 382

ISO 100, 105mm, f/4.0, 1/30 sec

Day 382 - Stolen moments

Yesterday I picked up a link to a story about an unknown street photographer, Vivian Maier. I am sure I was drawn to this older couple watching the sunset tonight because I was so inspired by her. The clip is definitely worth watching.
